Galatasaray, Zaha

Galatasaray takes advantage of Fenerbahçe’s slip-up and beats Trabzonspor

Galatasaray did not let escape yesterday the opportunity given to them by Fenerbahçe, who hours earlier equalised with Samsunspor, and not only won but also trashed Trabzonspor at their own stadium, taking three valuable points that put them back levelled with the team led by İsmail Kartal, the current Turkish league leader.

In a league round that was notable for the humiliation received by Beşiktaş at the hands of one of the bottom teams, Galata made no mistake and was able to beat the former league champions convincingly, thanks to goals from Zaha (13th and 61st minutes), Kerem Aktürkoğlu (80th and 90+6th minutes) and Ayhan (64th minute). The scoreline could have been greater but the referee, with the help of the VAR, disallowed another goal in the 90th minute by Zaha – undoubtedly the star of the match – due to a previous foul by Barış.

Trabzonspor’s only goal was scored in the 78th minute from a corner kick by Enis Destan, but it was the exception in a game dominated by Galatasaray. With this result, the Istanbul Lions are back levelled with Fenerbahçe, while the Trabzon team remains third but is now 17 points far from Fener.
