Trabzonspor, victory in the League

Fenerbahçe falls to Trabzonspor, cedes top spot to Galatasaray

Fenerbahçe lost its legendary winning streak this season and finally fell in Istanbul against the legendary Trabzonspor, losing the three points they needed to stay top of the Turkish league, a position now held by Galatasaray. Paul Onuachu with a header in the 10th minute, Berat Özdemir with a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box in the 46th minute, and Nicolas Pépé just a minute later, were the scorers of the three goals that the Black Sea Storm scored against the Yellow Canaries in Saturday’s match at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium in Istanbul.

Two goals – both from penalties – from Dušan Tadić in the 66th minute and in stoppage time made up for a result that revealed major shortcomings for İsmail Kartal’s team; previously, Fenerbahçe was left with one player less with 12 minutes to go for a double yellow card to İsmail Yüksek. The 3-2 result is a major blow for the Canaries, who relinquished the lead to an also unbeaten Galatasaray, who beat Kasımpaşa on Friday thanks to two goals from the Ivorian Wilfried Zaha, and now are ahead of Kartal’s team by a single point. Beşiktaş, meanwhile, was also defeated in Antalya and now drops to the fifth place in the table.
