Galatasaray finished off their recently achieved league title with a resounding victory achieved last night in the derby against Fenerbahçe, in what was their closing game of the 2022-2023 Super League season. Nicolo Zaniolo in a solo move beat İrfan Eğribayat to make the 1-0 in a packed Ali Sami Yen stadium, and in the second half the Argentine star Mauro Icardi finished off a corner kick on the edge of the small area, scoring the 2- 0; previously, 10 minutes before, the Brazilian Luan Peres received a direct red card for bringing down Zaniolo on the edge of the area, leaving Fenerbahçe with one less player.
Precisely the Italian would close the scoring and the season for Galatasaray in the 79th minute, with a spectacular goal after a solo play started in midfield, scoring with this double the final 3-0 in the derby against Fenerbahçe. After the referee’s final whistle, the celebrations for the league title mathematically achieved last week began. There is yet another match to play this week, but the Lions will not play as rival Hatayspor withdrew from the competition following the devastating earthquakes in south-eastern Turkey in February. Galata’s coach, Okan Buruk, has already said by the way that he will basically keep the same roster for next season of the Süper Lig.
