Istanbul, inauguration of the new Atatürk Cultural Centre

Istanbul’s iconic Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM) reopens

After the original building was demolished in 2018 due to structural problems, and after 2 years of reconstruction works that have cost 180 million euros, the new Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM) was inaugurated yesterday in Istanbul with a grand ceremony led by the Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, and coinciding with the 98th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic. In addition to a 2,500-seat opera house, the new AKM, located in Taksim Square, houses a cinema, libraries, exhibition halls, a children’s art center, a concert and conference hall, cafes and restaurants.
