Protests are growing in Turkey, where hundreds of people gathered this morning in front of the US embassy in Ankara during US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken‘s visit to the country, chanting slogans such as “No to genocide in Gaza” or “Murderous Israel, genocidal US“; organised by an organisation that is part of the Confederation of Civil Servants’ Unions, the protest ended when the demonstrators symbolically left two coffins with the flags of the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the EU and the UN. There were also other incidents with private citizens who approached the foreign ministry headquarters in Ankara during Blinken’s visit.
Alongside the street protests, campaigns and calls for a boycott of Israeli-made products are growing in Turkey. Municipal companies, universities, public institutions and associations began announcing last week that they will stop selling Israeli products or products from companies that support Israel and “Zionism”. To this end, several media outlets have been publishing public lists of products marketed by companies that have openly supported the Israeli state, including large multinationals such as Unilever, Coca-Cola, Starbucks or McDonald’s; there are even websites or mobile applications that offer information on which products and brands to boycott. We reproduce below some of the information published in Turkish media:
