A 1,500-year-old ancient Roman monastery with mosaics has been discovered in Turkey, after the gendarmerie intervened in illegal excavations in the Aliağa district of İzmir province. After receiving a tip, Turkish gendarmes went to the area where two people, who were arrested, were trying to illegally remove archaeological remains found at a depth of two meters. Upon examination, archaeologists have determined that the mosaic, on which an inscription that reads “Made by a man of the church elders for the well-being of his family” appears, has an enormous historical value.
