Galatasaray, Osimhen's goal

Galatasaray becomes leader after yet another thrashing

Reigning Turkish Premier League champions Galatasaray once again showed their strength on Sunday with another thrashing, this time away to Kayserispor, to secure another win that keeps them unbeaten and makes them the new leaders of the Süper Lig, positioning them as the favourites to retain the title this season.

Last night’s match at the Kadir Has stadium in Kayseri was dominated by Okan Buruk‘s team. In the opening minutes, Kayserispor tried to stop the Lions by maintaining a tight defence and even launching some dangerous attacks against Galatasaray, but this illusion was shattered when in the 36th minute the first goal came in a fast counter-attacking move that culminated in Eren Elmalı finishing off in the box to make it 0-1.

Just seconds into the second half, it was again the Turkish defender who headed in from the edge of the six-yard box to score Galata’s second of the night. With the scoreboard in their favour and a clear dominance on the pitch, Buruk even dared to try a few experiments on the bench.

On the stroke of full time, Victor Osimhen scored in the 86th minute, from just inside the six-yard box, after a great pass from Zaniolo. In stoppage time, Leroy Sané made it 4-0 with a powerful shot from outside the box that ricocheted off Kayseri’s Iranian midfielder Ali Karimi and went into the back of the net.

The result makes Galatasaray the new leader of the Turkish Super League with three wins in three games, all by a landslide, and a total of nine points, the same as Trabzonspor, who is second. Fenerbahçe meanwhile got its first win at home to bottom side Kocaelispor, but for now they remain 7th in the standings with only 4 points.
