Trabzonspor took on Kasımpaşa in Istanbul for another win – this time away from home – in the closing game of the second round of the Turkish Football League, in which last season’s reigning champion Galatasaray had no qualms about thrashing one of the Süper Lig‘s bottom teams.
The first half of last night’s match at a half-empty Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stadium was goalless with few chances on goal, the clearest of which came from Ali Yavuz, the Antalya-born striker from Kasımpaşa Spor Kulübü, whose 18-minute shot from outside the box sailed just over the bar..
In the second half, in the 57th minute, Bosnian Edin Višća attempted to shot an earlier header from Montenegrin Stefan Savić in the six-yard box, missing a good chance for the Black Sea Storm when his shot inadvertently hit the hand of his team-mate Tim Jabol-Folcarelli.
The only goal of the game came in the 75th minute when Zubkhov, breaking down the right flank after receiving a pass from Okay on a counter-attack, crashed his shot against the left post; but the rebound was immediately seized upon by Felipe Augusto, and with almost no effort the Brazilian striker slotted the ball between the posts to make it 1-0 and give Trabzonspor the win.
The win in Istanbul was the second since the start of the season for Trabzonspor, who now has 6 points and is provisionally 5th in the Turkish Super League standings, while Kasımpaşa has 0 points after suffering yet another defeat. Elsewhere, Galatasaray showed no mercy against newly-promoted Fatih Karagümrük, thrashing them 3-0 – the same result they achieved the previous matchday by beating fellow bottom side Gaziantep FK. Fenerbahçe disappointed with a goalless draw in Izmir, while Beşiktaş managed a win in their first game of the 2025-2026 season against another bottom side, İkas Eyüpspor.
