Jhon Duran

Fenerbahçe’s new Colombian signing Jhon Duran arrives in Istanbul

Colombian centre-forward Jhon Duran, Fenerbahçe‘s new signing, arrived in Istanbul today on a plane from Medellin, Colombia, and landed in the Turkish metropolis after 3pm.

Fenerbahçe is looking to improve its squad for the new season, and have added Jhon Duran to its squad on loan. Duran, who joined Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia last January for 77 million on a five-and-a-half-year contract, became the most expensive Colombian player in history.

Jhon Duran contributed 8 goals in 13 games during his time in the Saudi Arabian Professional League, in which he also received 4 yellow cards and 1 red card; however, after playing 1,094 minutes on the pitch, Duran did not seem to adapt to the Arab country. Now, in his new stage in the Turkish league, he will play on loan at Fenerbahçe for the next season.

The 21-year-old striker landed at Istanbul airport just after 3pm, after his plane – a private jet with the number LVKLH – took off from Medellin, Colombia, at 02:10 Turkish time (00:10 CET) for Istanbul. According to Turkish media such as Milliyet, the young striker arrived at Atatürk Airport ‘s General Aviation Terminal at 15:15.

Mourinho looking to strengthen Fenerbahce squad

After the necessary checks, the Colombian footballer boarded a helicopter waiting for him at the airport and left for his first destination, Kalamış, and then to Fenerbahçe’s Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, where his official presentation will take place. Jhon Duran will sign the official contract with his new team after passing the medical examinations, reports the Turkish press.

The signing of Duran has been an express request from Mourinho, who is looking to strengthen the squad after a previous season in which Fenerbahçe was heavily criticised for its low level of play. Turkish media report that the Turkish club would have offered a payment of 7 million euros for the Colombian, who would receive an annual salary of 15 million euros until June 2026; however, other sources already speak of a possible negotiation of the new sporting director of Fenerbahçe, Devin Özek, for a definitive incorporation of the Colombian player, who would sign with the Turks until June 2030.
