Passengers who were yesterday at the Üsküdar station of the Marmaray service in Istanbul, which crosses the Bosphorus underwater connecting Asia and Europe, were surprised when an emergency evacuation was announced over the loudspeakers. “Dear passengers: Due to an emergency, all passengers must leave the station, immediately.” As it turned out later, the evacuation was due to a false alarm because a traveller activated the fire alarm for no reason, which caused the security system to automatically activate the evacuation protocol.
