Istanbul, Maiden's Tower restoration

First images of the new dome of the Maiden Tower in Istanbul

The restoration works of the historic Maiden’s Tower of Istanbul (Kız Kulesi, in Turkish), an icon of the city, are advancing at a good pace and have already revealed the new dome and part of the structure of the building, from the Byzantine period and famous among tourists to take selfies. Once the restoration work – which will eliminate several metal and concrete structures added throughout the 20th century, especially in the dome – is completed, the Maiden’s Tower will recover its original silhouette of a “medieval fortress”, and will become a museum that can be visited by tourists.
