At least 3 people have died and another 3 remain missing after the sinking of the “Joe-2”, a merchant ship with 14 crew members on board which sank this morning off the coast of the Kumluca district in Antalya, southern Turkey. The Guinea-Bissau-flagged cargo ship was sailing from the port of İskenderun to the Ukrainian port of Izmail when it sank offshore 35 km from the coast around 4 am local time (3:00 CET). All the crew members, of whom 8 were able to be rescued alive although with injuries, were Syrian nationals. A corvette, 7 boats, 2 helicopters and a Turkish coast guard plane are taking part in the rescue operation.
