Firefighters have been fighting for two days to stop the spread of flames in two big forest fires declared in the provinces of Mersin and Hatay, in southern Turkey. The Turkish Minister of Agriculture, Bekir Pakdemirli, announced a few hours ago that the fire declared in Aydıncık (Mersin) had finally been brought under control after burning 1,500 hectares, and that 4 people had been arrested in connection with the fire; but firefighting teams were still trying this morning to control the fire that broke out Thursday in the Hassa district of Hatay.
