Erdoğan, bombing of Gaza

Erdoğan to the Muslim world: What are you waiting for to unite and stop Israel?

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan called on Wednesday on the Muslim world to join forces to stop Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, while singling out the UN and the international community for their failure to stop the Netanyahu government’s massacres of Palestinian civilians.

The spirit of the UN is dead in Gaza,’ the Turkish leader said during a speech to members of his AKP party at the parliament building in Ankara. ‘They have failed to protect even their own employees or humanitarian workers, let alone prevent genocide… What good is the UN if it cannot stop a genocide broadcast live in the middle of the 21st century?’ lamented Erdoğan, who also addressed Muslim countries, criticising their lack of reaction especially after the recent Israeli bombing in Rafah that left dozens dead.

‘I have a few words to say to the Muslim world: what are you waiting for to make a common decision? When will the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation implement an effective and preventive policy to stop Israel’s genocide?’ the Turkish president and AKP leader said. ‘Israel is not only a threat to Gaza, but to all of humanity,’ Erdoğan asserted, warning that ‘no country is safe unless Israel is forced to comply with international laws.’

The Turkish president also had harsh words for the Israeli government’s main ally, the United States, recalling that it is the main supplier of weapons to the Jewish state: ‘Your hands are also stained with the blood of the Palestinians in this massacre. ‘European leaders and governments, you (too) have become accomplices to Israel’s vampirism by your silence. The images from Rafah are unbearable… Have you not even a twinge of conscience? No religion in the world can justify this massacre,’ he added.

For Erdoğan, values such as ‘democracy, human rights, freedom of speech and press, women’s and children’s rights’ have died in Gaza, where he said ‘humanity has died’. ‘Genocide, atrocities and barbarism (of Israel) must be stopped by a human alliance before Netanyahu and his network of murderers get out of control,’ warned the Turkish president, for whom ‘Zionism is being unmasked all over the world’. ‘Young people are beginning to realise that Zionism is a perversion,’ he said.
