Erdoğan announces new salary and retirement increases

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, who is facing his re-election in 10 days in the presidential and parliamentary elections that Turkey is holding on May 14, promised yesterday during a campaign event in the province of Giresun a new salary and retirement increases for civil servants in the second half of the year to combat the effects of inflation. “In July, we will help our employees and retirees with new increases,” said Erdoğan, who highlighted his party’s achievements in correcting Turkey’s longstanding “structural deficiencies” and raising the standards of services such as education or health “to the highest level.” Last January, the Turkish government already announced a 30% increase in salaries for active and retired civil servants.
