Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan announced a 45% salary increase for civil servants just 5 days before the presidential and parliamentary elections that Turkey is holding on May 14, in which some polls show the opposition as the winner in the first round. During televised statements made from Ankara, Erdoğan announced that the minimum wage for public workers will increase to 15,000 liras (about 700 euros), a move that will affect some 700,000 officials. In addition, he recalled that in July there will be a new increase in the salaries and retirements of civil servants to compensate the increase in inflation, despite the fact that it accumulates 6 consecutive months of decline.
