In an intense duel that was decided in extremis in the closing stages of the match, Beşiktaş JK secured an agonising 1-0 win over bottom-placed Kayserispor on Monday in the 18th round of the Turkish Super League.
The goal which swung the game in the Black Eagles‘ favour came in stoppage time, five minutes into the 90 minutes, when El Bilal Toure headed a cross into the six-yard box that hit the crossbar and rebounded into the Anatolian side’s net.
The match, although dominated by Sergen Yalçın‘s team, was rather dull for much of the 90 minutes, with a slow tempo and few real chances of goal, partly because of the Kayseri side’s defensive blocking and partly because of the cold weather at the Tüpraş stadium of Istanbul, where snowfall has blanketed many parts of the city in white.
Beşiktaş controlled the ball and the match statistics show a possession rate of around 69%: they generated more attempts and pressed hard in their opponents’ half, but they were resisted by the Kayserispor defence and it was only in the closing stages of the game – when Beşiktaş gave everything they had to offer – that the Istanbul team found the desired reward in the form of a goal.
With this result, Beşiktaş now has 32 points and remains fifth in the Turkish Premier League standings, 11 points behind leader Galatasaray, who also cooled off and was held to a draw at home by Gaziantep. Kayserispor, meanwhile, is still on 15 points and remains third from bottom, in the relegation places, with only three wins after 18 rounds of the 2025-2026 season. Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, triumphant after beating Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Cup, came back from an early goal down to win 2-3 in Alanya.
