Trabzonspor reinforces its league lead after the derby draw between Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş. Meanwhile, Galatasaray has not won for 6 matches.
The draw in the exciting derby in Istanbul that Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş played last night at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium, resulted in a distribution of points between both teams that benefited the current league leader, Trabzonspor, who rules alone with 9 points of advantage over its immediate pursuer.
Mesut Özil easily scored a penalty for an alleged hand in the area 14 minutes into the game, putting the home team ahead on the scoreboard. However, the Black Eagles were not far behind, and 11 minutes later Josef de Souza took advantage of a ball disputed on the edge of the area to launch a right kick that caught Berke Özer, the Yellow Canaries goalkeeper, totally off guard.
Fenerbahçe however went to counterattack, and just 5 minutes later Mergim Berisha took advantage of a tremendous error by the Beşiktaş defender Domagoj Vida when he tried to deliver the ball to the goalkeeper, and established the 2-1 on the scoreboard with which the first time was closed.
In the second half, Josef de Souza would again star in a spectacular header goal in the 59th minute, with which the Eagles managed to equalise the score, a result that would no longer move until the final whistle, despite the fact that both teams enjoyed chances.
The draw in the classic derby in Istanbul hurts both teams; Fenerbahçe remains 5th with 28 points but increases the gap with the undisputed leader of the Turkish league, Trabzonspor, who was able to beat Hatayspor at home; and Beşiktaş, with 24 points, fell from 7th to 9th place. For its part, Galatasaray could not go beyond the draw in their stadium against the Başakşehir of Istanbul: in this way, the Lions have already accumulated 6 matches without knowing victory and fall to 11th place, at an insurmountable distance of 18 points from Trabzonspor.
