Muharrem Sarıkaya, an Ankara representative for the private Turkish channel Habertürk, has been forced to resign after a video surfaced in which he slapped a camera hard in the face during a live interview with the mayor of Gaziantep. In the video, which has been leaked to social media unleashing great indignation among public opinion in Turkey, it is seen how Sarıkaya, when cameras were not focused on him, gave a strong blow to the cameraman and sound technician Ahmet Demir, apparently because he couldn’t hear well. Although Sarıkaya has apologised to the cameraman, he has refused to accept the apologies and will press charges against Sarıkaya; other journalists have now revealed how, in recent years, Sarıkaya frequently used physical and verbal violence as well as workplace harassment against fellow journalists.
