Some 7,000 hectares of forests (exactly 6,900) have burned and been reduced to ashes in the 1,022 wildfires that have been declared in Turkey between January and July of this year, according to data provided by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, who pointed out that an important part of the burned area occurred during the wildfires that particularly affected the south of the country in July. “Last year, in the same period, 1,092 fires broke out and 8,100 hectares of land were burned,” said Yumaklı, who explained this improvement due to the increase in fire prevention measures and the reduction in response time after detecting a fire.
