The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has signed an agreement with the Turkish defense company Baykar to build a center for the repair and maintenance of Bayraktar drones on Ukrainian territory, as part of Kiev’s plans to boost its production of combat drones and create an “army of drones” to face the invasion of Russia: a deal that “will make a significant contribution to strengthening Ukrainian defense capabilities and bringing us closer to victory,” according to the Ukrainian defense ministry. It is estimated that Ukraine has trained more than 10,000 military drone operators, with plans to reach as many as 20,000, and the Turkish company Baykar began construction of a plant in Ukraine in early July to manufacture the famous Bayraktar TB2 combat drone, which it became very popular early in the war for its effectiveness in destroying Russian military targets.
