Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan stressed that “Ukraine deserves to join NATO” during the press conference offered in Istanbul after the visit that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskyy made to Turkey this Friday at the invitation of Erdoğan himself, who before the Journalists insisted that Ankara has carried out “the most intensive efforts” at the diplomatic level to end the war in Ukraine.
Erdoğan, who affirmed that Turkey will provide all the necessary support for the reconstruction of Ukraine, expressed his confidence in the extension of the grain agreement with Russia, which expires on July 17, and called on Ukraine and Russia to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. For his part, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Turkey and to Erdoğan himself for the defense he has always made of Ukraine’s territorial integrity since Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and said he was preparing a peace initiative, in which Turkey could play a key role.
