Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan announced a deal with Russia late on Wednesday after a mediation by Turkey to prolong the so-called grain deal, which allows Ukraine to safely export grain from its Black Sea ports, thus avoiding in the last minute the end of an agreement that expired tomorrow, and whose disappearance would have put world food security at risk. Moscow had repeatedly threatened to withdraw from the pact, criticizing obstacles to export its own grain and fertilizers. “Thanks to our efforts and the help of our Russian and Ukrainian friends, it has been decided to extend the agreement for another two months,” Erdoğan declared from Ankara – an announcement confirmed by the Ukrainian and Russian governments.
