Russia agreed on Monday to extend the agreement to export grain safely from Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea for another 2 months, as confirmed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin after negotiations held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva (Switzerland). For its part, the Ukrainian government reacted to the announcement by saying that while it is good news, Moscow’s decision to extend it for only 60 days “contradicts the document signed by Turkey and the UN,” an agreement that “implies at least one extension of 120 days”. The Kremlin also warns that what happens after those 60 days will depend on whether the West lifts a series of sanctions, including those on exports of Russian agricultural products.
