Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan assured that Turkey is prepared for any scenario in the current Iran-Israel conflict, while defending Iran’s ‘legitimate right’ to defend itself against Israeli aggression, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of ‘surpassing Hitler’ in his atrocities.
“Israel has attacked Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. It has massacred civilians. It attacks and kills innocent civilians every day. And as if all these were not enough, Israel has expanded its vandalism by attacking targets in Iran and organising assassinations inside Iran. It is a completely natural, legitimate and legal right for Iran to defend itself against Israel’s vandalism and state terrorism,” the Turkish president was quoted by several media as saying, during a speech today to deputies of his AKP party at the Turkish parliament in Ankara.
“Israel is killing hundreds of people every day. Israel has reached a level of barbarism. Netanyahu has long surpassed Hitler as a genocidal. Let us hope that his fate will not be the same. Let us hope that sooner or later he will have to be held accountable before an independent court and pay for the crimes he has committed in this world, not in the other,” said Erdoğan, who assured that Turkey is making “preparations for the possible effects of war” between Iran and Israel. “This government is fully committed to safeguarding Turkey’s interests, peace, unity and security. We have made and are making preparations for any possible consequences and negative scenarios“.
The Turkish leader also criticised in his speech the lack of action and the silence of the international community in the face of what Israel is doing: “In the face of the aggression carried out before the eyes of all humanity, the UN, international organisations and states remain silent, some even support this savagery,” he declared. “The blood of massacred civilians, and murdered children and babies, splashes not only on the hands and faces of those who support Israel’s arrogance, but also of those who remain silent,” Erdoğan insisted.
“We are not on the side of violence and oppression, but on the side of truth, justice, dialogue and diplomacy. In this perspective, we have had intensive diplomatic contacts since 13 June to put an end to Israel’s aggression. We have spoken twice with President Trump and with President Pezeshkian (of Iran). We have discussed the issue with President Putin… As a country that has had relations with Iran from the beginning, we have sought a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme. We are doing everything possible to silence the weapons,” Erdoğan concluded.
