Fenerbahçe managed to regain the league lead they lost last week after their defeat to Trabzonspor, despite obtaining just a goalless draw in Sunday’s final match of round 12th of the Turkish Super Lig against Adana Demirspor (currently third in the standings), as previously unbeaten Galatasaray found a tumble on its way.
Only 5 minutes before the final whistle, Fenerbahçe’s Serbian player Dušan Tadić scored a goal that was quickly celebrated by the Yellow Canaries fans; however, the assistant immediately raised the flag to disallow the goal for offside despite protests from several players, so the match ended with the score unchanged at 0-0.
A day earlier, Galatasaray was unexpectedly defeated away in Hatay; despite dominating possession and Wilfried Zaha‘s equaliser before the break, in the second-half Didier Lamkel scored a beautiful goal after a counter-attacking move to give the home team the win, leaving the Lions without three vital points to preserve their recently gained lead. With this defeat for Okan Buruk’s team, Fenerbahçe regained the Turkish Super League crown, although it is levelled on 31 points with Galatasaray; also levelled on points (22) are the 3rd, 4th and 5th placed in the standings: Adana Demirspor, Trabzonspor and Beşiktaş.
