The tallest man in the world is Sultan Kösen, a Turkish citizen who stands at 2.51 metres (251 cm) tall. He has held the Guinness World Record as the tallest living man since 2009.
Who is Sultan Kösen?
Sultan Kösen, a Turkish citizen from the Derik district of Mardin province in southeastern Turkey, remains the tallest living man in the world after the 2024 edition of the Guinness World Records held in Italy. With a height of 251 centimetres, Kösen has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest man in the world since 2009.
His measurements are impressive: his hands measure 27.5 centimetres and his feet are 36.5 centimetres long. His fame as the world’s tallest man has led Sultan Kösen to travel the world and visit 128 countries to date – trips in which he says he is proud to represent not only his native Mardin, but the whole of Turkey.
“Next week I am going to the USA, we will go to Los Angeles. We will take part in several events, and I will represent my country as best as I can. We bring the culture and beauty of Mardin to many cities in the world. I am proud of our country, and I am sure that all of Turkey is proud of me,” says Kösen. Interestingly, the world’s tallest woman is also Turkish: Rümeysa Gelgi, who stands at 2 metres and 15 centimetres.
