A court in Turkey has received a paternity suit filed by a Turkish woman who claims to be the biological daughter of US President Donald Trump, claiming that she is the fruit of an illicit relationship that the current US president had with a woman, who decided to give her up at birth to a Turkish family.
Turkish media reported that the plaintiff, Necla Özmen, a 55-year-old woman living in Ankara, filed the complaint last September requesting a DNA test and legal recognition of paternity. Officially, Özmen is registered in Turkey as the daughter of Satı and Dursun Özmen, and according to the statement filed with the court, she was born in 1970 and raised by that marriage, although her father Dursun Özmen died in 2009.
According to the applicant, in 2017 her legal mother, Satı Sursun, revealed to her the truth about her birth; according to the story revealed by her legal mother, she gave birth in 1970 in a hospital to a stillborn baby, and in the same hospital, another woman – whom she identified as an American citizen named Sophia– decided to give her newborn baby to her. Her mother reportedly told her that Sophia apparently became pregnant after an illicit relationship with Trump, which is why she decided to abandon the baby, a girl who was registered by the Özmen family as their own daughter, and who would be Necla Özmen.
“She (Sophia) abandoned me after giving birth. I guess they met because my father (Dursun) worked for NATO. The mother who raised me used to say: ‘Your father knows best’, but I couldn’t ask him because he passed away (in 2009),” Özmen explained. She also claims that one day in 2017, when she saw Trump on the news, her legal mother recognised him and pointed to him saying, “This is your father“, as her biological mother (Sophia) had shown her a picture of the girl’s father at the time of handing her over to the Özmen.
“I want to know if he is my father. I would like him to talk to me. If he accepts, I can prove it with a DNA test. I just want to know the truth,” she said. Although the court before which she filed the lawsuit has concluded that there is no factual basis or sufficient evidence to justify the opening of the process, and has rejected the claim, Necla Özmen has confirmed that she has appealed the court decision and has also sent formal requests to the US Embassy and US courts, with the aim of having her claim to be recognised as Donald Trump’s daughter examined outside Turkey as well.
