The number of electric scooters grows day by day, and they have become the nightmare for both drivers and pedestrians in big cities like Istanbul, because they do not comply with traffic regulations and invade streets, and even sidewalks to avoid traffic, something which is fined about 30 euros. This week alone, police have fined about 90 scooter drivers. “They appear suddenly, you narrowly avoid them,” complains a driver. “They drive in a fast, dangerous and unpredictable way. They ignore the rules,” says another, denouncing that the law on the use of electric scooters is systematically violated. The problem is safety: this week, a 40-year-old woman who was driving a scooter died after being hit by a car, whose driver (who is facing a trial for murder) says he did not see her coming.
