Turkey, Guinness World Record as the tallest woman in the world

This is the tallest living woman in the world… and she is Turkish

Rümeysa Gelgi, a native of the Turkish province of Karabük, has been officially named at the age of 24 as the tallest living woman in the world by the Guinness World Records, with a height of 2 metres and 15 centimetres. Gelgi suffers from Weaver syndrome, a rare disease that causes accelerated and excessive growth, creating her mobility problems. “I think that the differences and disadvantages can become an advantage if you want and make an effort: so, accept yourself as you are, know your potential, and do everything you can,” explains Gelgi, who wants to take advantage of his fame to raise awareness about rare diseases. Curiously, the tallest man in the world at 2 meters and 51 centimetres, is also from Turkey: he is Sultan Kösen, whom Gelgi would like to meet in person.
