A voting organised by the Istanbul Metropolitan City Council (İBB) so that citizens themselves could choose the new design of the emblematic Taksim Square, concluded this Friday with the election of Project No. 15, one of the 3 finalists among the hundreds of projects presented, which were voted on by more than 200,000 people. The winning project gives a new change to the area that connects with İstiklal Avenue, integrates more the famous Gezi Park with the square and enhances the monument to the Republic. It also provides for the construction of a pedestrian bridge, an amphitheatre, and the extension of the tram to Gezi.
