At least 5 people have died – among them a child of only a year and a half – and another 5 remain missing after the serious floods that have devastated the southeast of Turkey, especially affecting the provinces of Adıyaman and Şanlıurfa, two of the most affected by the recent earthquakes that devastated that region of the country causing more than 48,000 deaths. The floods, caused by torrential rains of up to 200 liters per square meter that began to fall on Tuesday night, have flooded streets, homes, businesses and even hospitals, dragging dozens of cars and especially affecting the thousands of people temporarily housed in emergency tents after the earthquakes.
While emergency teams work in the area to try to assist those affected, authorities announced the closure of schools in the province of Şanlıurfa due to the rains, which are expected to continue intensely in the next few hours in Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Malatya, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, and Kilis, most of them included among those affected by the 7.8 and 7.6 earthquakes of February 6.
