Turkey, statue head of Roman emperor Hadrian

Statue of the Roman emperor Hadrian found in Turkey

A team of archaeologists excavating the ruins of the ancient city of Alabanda, in western Turkey, has discovered the remains of a statue erected almost two millennia ago dedicated to the Roman emperor Hadrian. For now, only 6 parts of the statue have been found (including the head), 2.5 metres high and which has been found in the place where the old assembly of the city was. Experts believe that the statue was built around 120 AD in honor of Hadrian, famous for having travelled all the domains of the Roman Empire and for having visited Anatolia several times.
