During the recent MIPCOM 2024 held in Cannes, Kanal D International presented the new Turkish series produced by this well-known Turkish channel, including among others ‘İnci Taneleri’ or ‘Annem Ankara’: productions that have positioned Turkey as the third largest exporter of TV series in the world, only behind the United States and the United Kingdom.
According to the Turkish daily Hürriyet, during the event in Cannes, Kanal D also presented other home-produced series such as ‘Yalan’, ‘Veda Mektubu’, ‘Dönence’ and ‘Üç Kız Kardeş’. Yilmaz Erdogan, the screenwriter and star of ‘İnci Taneleri’, told the newspaper that the success of Turkish series is due to the fact that ‘the problems that people all over the world face are very similar, especially when it comes to important issues such as family.’
Murat Yancı, chairman of the Demirören media group (owner of Kanal D), underlined the role of Turkish series in spreading Turkish culture and values around the world: ‘Our stories, which reach the whole world, are our greatest strength,’ he said, also stressing the universal character of the stories they tell.
During the presentation in Cannes, Kanal D International – which in 2017 premiered its first Turkish series in Spain, ‘Fatmagül’ – announced the upcoming foreign premieres of some of its productions, such as ‘Dilek Taşı’ in Mexico or ‘Zalim Istanbul’ in Portugal. Other Turkish series such as ‘Kuzey Güney’ or ‘Siyah Beyaz Aşk’ have also recently been very successful in Europe and Asia.
