Turkish series have reached unthinkable heights of success just a decade ago, and are now watched by more than 750 million people in over 150 countries around the world, said Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Batuhan Mumcu, at the 39th edition of the MIPCOM content international fair in Cannes. “We reach an audience of 750 million people across 152 countries with content produced in Turkey,” Mumcu said.
During the opening of MIPCOM, the organisers also revealed that Turkey is currently the largest exporter of series among non-English speaking countries, and ranks third in the world behind the United States and the United Kingdom. An average of 50 TV series are produced in Turkey every year, and the content production industry, which is worth billions of dollars globally every year, is also a growing sector in Turkey. According to industry representatives, it is estimated that on average each episode of a Turkish series generates between $300,000 and $700,000 in revenues worldwide.
