Turkish TV series “Yargı” (Family Secrets) has been honoured at the 51st International Emmy Awards in New York, where the series, produced by Ay Yapım, won the Best Telenovela Award, confirming its popularity abroad as well as in Turkey. Yargı thus becomes the first Turkish TV series to be awarded at the Emmys since another Turkish series, “Kara Sevda“, won the coveted award in 2017.
“Yargı” had to compete at the Emmys with other prestigious productions from other countries, such as “Cara e Coragem” and “Pantanal” from Brazil, or “Para Semper” from Portugal. Series producer Kerem Çatay, director Ali Bilgin, screenwriter Sema Ergenekon, and lead actors Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Pınar Deniz were on the red carpet on 20 November in New York to attend the awards ceremony.
“Yargı” (“Judgment”), distributed internationally under the title “Family Secrets“, tells the story of Ilgaz (Kaan Urgancıoğlu) and Ceylin (Pınar Deniz), a respected prosecutor with strong principles and an ambitious young lawyer with unorthodox methods, whose paths cross when Ilgaz’s younger brother is implicated in a dark murder case.
Despite their differences, the two will be forced to act together to uncover the truth about the crime, which will end up involving both of them and their families to unsuspected limits, marking an irreversible before and after in the lives of both, and leading them to a complicated professional and even romantic relationship, full of obstacles and marked by the couple’s own differences.
The fact that “Yargı” (Family Secrets) has been endorsed with this prestigious Emmy Award, confirms the success of Turkish series all over the world, including in Spanish-speaking countries and in even in the USA. The International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela, won by this Turkish series, is awarded each year by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), and recognises excellence in soap operas originally produced and broadcast outside the USA.
