Beşiktaş, who had caused a surprise by defeating the hitherto unbeaten leader of the Turkish league, Galatasaray, last week, once again suffered from the playing problems that has been suffering this season and could not get past a difficult match against Kasımpaşa – who has become its bête noire – drawing the match.
It was Kasımpaşa who dominated the game in yesterday’s clash at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium, and it was also the first to score, when 14 minutes into the game Ben Ouanes found himself alone in front of the opposition goalkeeper, Mert Günok, and made it 1-0.
To make things even more difficult for the Black Eagles, shortly before the end of the first half, the team led by Gunnar Solskjær found itself a man down when VAR ruled that a foul committed by Talha Sanuç after a rough tackle on Yasin Özcan, for which the referee had given him a yellow card, should be a direct red and expulsion.
During the second half the game grew in intensity but Kasımpaşa maintained its dominance of possession and its pressure on its opponent, resulting in a goal in the 85th minute by Hajradinović after a counter-attack started in the opposition half; however, after the mandatory VAR consultation, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The referee did award a penalty in the 88th minute in favour of Beşiktaş after Salih Uçan was brought down in the area. The penalty was masterfully converted by Gedson Fernandes, who thus managed to save the match for Solskjær’s team and take two points from Kasımpaşa. This is in fact the first time that Beşiktaş has managed to win any points against the Apaçiler (‘Apaches’) in the last two seasons, as the three previous encounters always ended in victory for Kasımpaşa.
