Professionals and entrepreneurs in the tourism sector in Antalya, one of the provinces with most tourism in Turkey, have proposed to light up the ruins and monuments so that tourists can visit them at night, thus preventing the hottest hours in summer. In the opinion of the experts, this idea – which is already applied, for example, in the ruins of Ephesus – would serve to increase the visits of tourists, since the majority prefer to stay in their hotels in the face of temperatures that easily exceed 40 ºC in Antalya, instead of visiting places like the ruins of Perge, the theatre of Aspendos, or the temple of Apollo. “The tours are a torture in summer. The guides and tourists do not want to be under the sun,” they say.
