The first stage of the Ancient Ephesus Canal Project, which aims to re-join, 2,500 years later, this ancient World Heritage city with the sea through a 600-metre-long canal, will be completed by the end of 2022. The ancient Ephesus was an important commercial centre with a busy port, which over the centuries was filling with sediments until it was rendered useless and became the marsh that it is today; the project seeks to recover that old port, and turn it into another tourist attraction for the region.
