The world-famous Turkish novelist, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, married his partner for 10 years.
Orhan Pamuk, the first Turkish Nobel Prize in Literature winner, married Aslı Akyavaş, his partner for about 10 years, this week in an intimate ceremony held in Istanbul. This is the second marriage of the writer, who is currently 69 years old.
The couple officially married in a ceremony that took place on April 6 at the Beyoğlu district city hall offices, in the presence of only their closest relatives due to the coronavirus pandemic. In this way, Pamuk formalises his relationship of a decade with Akyavaş, 47 years old.
The famous writer was previously married between 1982 and 2001 with Aylin Türegün, with whom they have a common daughter, Rüya. Aslı Akyavaş, a graduate in international politics from the Bosphorus University and with marketing studies from the University of California, is well known for working for the institutionalisation of health tourism in Turkey.
Orhan Pamuk has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide of his works, which have been translated into more than 60 languages; some of his novels, such as Benim Adım Kırmızı (My Name is Red) or Kar (Snow), have become the most translated and read Turkish books in history. In 2006, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his literary work, which has made him a world-renowned writer. In 2012 he opened the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul, awarded in 2014 as European Museum of the Year.
