Trabzon’s team defeated Sivasspor on Sunday and snatched the throne from the league that the latter had held during 11 games. Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş fell down, and only Galatasaray continues to fight for the lead.
Trabzonspor managed to take over the throne of the Turkish Super League after defeating the Süper Lig leader, Sivasspor, on Sunday, in a day in which of the three big clubs in Istanbul only the Galatasaray achieved a victory that allows him to continue ascending positions.
It was not a day of luck for the Sivas team, which in recent days hast lost part of its strength causing it to lose points; in fact, it seemed almost a matter of time before the Sivasspor ended up giving up that position of leader that it has held for the last 11 days, but the goddess Fortuna also played her role in the match played on Sunday afternoon in Trabzon.
The first goal was early and came when only 4 minutes of play had elapsed: Norwegian striker Alexander Sörloth appeared opportunely in the area to finish off an N’Diaye center from the penalty spot, and set the 1-0 among the jubilation of the Black Sea fans.
However, the goal that would eventually give the victory to Trabzonspor and incidentally crowned it as the new leader was not the work of any of its players. There were only two minutes left for the break when Sörloth was again the protagonist of a play that in a matter of seconds left him a few meters from the goalkeeper.
An own goal gave the victory to Trabzonspor
The Norwegian’s pass to a teammate was however awkwardly cleared by Sivasspor defender Caner Osmanpaşa, who kicked the ball to the bottom of the net, setting it 2-0. The consolation goal for those of Sivas would come in the final minutes of discount and was the work of Mustapha Yatabare, but it did not help in a match that was in general evenly-matched, despite the former leader lacking some more claw.
In the rest of the Turkish league matches, Beşiktaş fell out at his stadium against Başakşehir and the same happened to Fenerbahçe during his visit to Ankara. Only Galatasaray maintained the type and managed to defeat Malatyaspor by the minimum in his Türk Telekom Arena stadium, which allows it to climb up to third place with 42 points – only 2 from Trabzonspor – and continue competing for the league’s lead.
