Trabzonspor lead the league after beating Fenerbahçe, who was left with 10 players. The match was decided in the final three minutes.
Trabzonspor, still undefeated this season in the Turkish league, maintained its unbeatable streak and managed to defeat Istanbul’s Fenerbahçe, who played most of the match with only 10 players, in their stadium, thus snatching the Super League lead.
The so-called Black Sea Storm received Fenerbahçe, the leader of the Super League for the last two weeks, at the Medical Park stadium in Trabzon on Sunday night, with options to snatch the 1st place if it achieved a victory against the Istanbul team. The truth is that both teams worked hard during the first half of the match, of which only 3 minutes had elapsed when Uruguayan striker Diego Rossi established the 0-1 with a short shot, taking advantage of a little chaos in the small area.
The game was looking good for the Yellow Canaries, until in the 23rd the South Korean defender Kim Min-jae received his second yellow card by knocking down Gervinho when he was entering the area alone; the referee decreed his immediate expulsion but not a penalty, for just one metre: however, the free kick launched at the edge of the area was executed magnificently by Anastasios Bakasetas, who launched a powerful left-footed shot that Fener’s goalkeeper, Altay Bayındır, managed to stop but already after having crossed the goal line.

With one less player, Fenerbahçe had to completely change the approach of the game, in which from that moment Trabzonspor was the clear dominator while those from Istanbul defended behind trying to stop the attacks of the Black Sea’s club. They managed to do it quite well, but the pressure from Trabzon’s kept mounting until, 3 minutes before the end of regulation time, the Danish Cornelius was clearly gripped and knocked down in the small area.
After a brief consultation with the VAR, the referee pointed to a penalty that was again executed by Bakasetas, who converted the maximum penalty without problems. Just 3 minutes later, already in the final moments of the game, a shot from Yusuf Sarı tripped over a Fenerbahçe player while Bayındır was trying to control the ball, which after several bounces ended up in the back of the Fener’s net with the Turkish goalkeeper unable to do anything to prevent it, thus establishing the 3-1 and unleashing a total euphoria in the stands of the stadium.
With this result, Trabzonspor, still undefeated after 9 weeks, accumulates 21 points and snatches the leadership of the Süper Lig from Fenerbahçe, now second with 19 points to its credit. Beşiktaş is third with two points behind, followed in fourth place by Fatih Karagümrük, a team from the Fatih district of Istanbul. For its part, Galatasaray managed to recover several positions in the table and ascends to the 5th place, after beating Konyaspor at home by the minimum.
