Fenerbahçe won in Hatay and is the new leader of the league, while Galatasaray ended its losing streak.
Fenerbahçe became the new leader of the Turkish Super League on Sunday after beating Hatayspor 1-2 away from home during the 7th week of the Süperlig, although today they could lose their newly acquired leadership and hand it over to Trabzonspor.
The match played yesterday afternoon at the New Hatay Stadium began with a goal in the 17th minute by Diego Rossi, who acrobatically finished off a Valencia centre over the small area, thus establishing the 0-1in favour of the Yellow Canaries.
12 minutes later the second goal of the Istanbul team would arrive, when once again Valencia offered a great pass this time to Filip Novák, who only had to give the final touch for the ball to enter the goal. Before the break, again, Valencia would star a one-on-one solo with Hatayspor’s Moroccan goalkeeper, Munir Mohand Mohamedi, and only the final intervention of the defender Fatih Kuruçuk prevented the 0-3.
Late in the second half, during an attack against Hatayspor, Dylan Saint-Louis received a pass in the area and, after taking control of the ball, he threw it against Fener’s goal, beating Altay Bayındır and establishing finally the definitive 1-2.
Galatasaray ends its losing streak, but remains in the middle of the table
For their part, Galatasaray ended their losing streak of 4 games without a win on Sunday and beat Göztepe – one of the teams at the bottom of the league – 2-1 in Istanbul, in a game that the Lions dominated playing at home, but where they failed to create scoring opportunities: a result with which Galatasaray manages to climb from 11th to 10th place in the table.
On the other hand, after the victory achieved yesterday, Fenerbahçe has become placed for the first time this season as leader of the Turkish Super League with 16 points, followed by Altay (15) and Beşiktaş (16); however, Trabzonspor, ranked 4th with 14 points, could snatch the lead from the Canaries if they win today against Alanyaspor.
