The number of victims after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey now rises to 19,388 dead and 77,711 injured, according to data that the Turkish president himself has announced from the region of the disaster, where he explained that more than 140,000 people are working in rescue and relief tasks to help the victims. Precisely for them, Erdoğan announced a series of measures that include the payment of rent during a year for those who lost their homes, and free flights to travel to or leave the affected region; furthermore, he promised to rebuild all the buildings in one year, and the payment of 10,000 liras to each affected family. “We are facing one of the biggest disasters in our history”, to which must be added “an unusually harsh winter”, said Erdoğan, who nevertheless acknowledged that there have been failures in the State response after the earthquakes.
