Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan said today in a video conference during a summit in the United Arab Emirates that some 20 million people have been affected by the earthquakes in southeastern Turkey and that some 8,000 people have been rescued alive after the quakes, which affected 10 provinces with an energy equivalent to 500 atomic bombs. Thanking the international aid provided by more than 100 countries, he pointed out that Turkey is facing “one of the biggest natural disasters” not only in its history, but in the history of humanity, but added that “it will never forget the friendship you have shown on this dark day”, said Erdoğan, who today visited a hospital in Istanbul that treats some injured by the earthquakes.
