What happened on board Turkish Airlines flight TK-84 between Istanbul and Manila, which became the scene of an unexpected mid-air birth of a baby after a pregnant Filipina passenger began experiencing labour contractions en route, eventually giving birth on board the aircraft, can be described as a true on-board miracle.
As reported by Turkish daily Hürriyet, the Boeing 777 took off normally from Istanbul Airport to the Philippine capital. However, while the plane was already flying at cruising speed towards its destination, a Filipina passenger began to suffer severe and increasingly intense labour pains. The crew then intervened to give her first aid and appealed to the passengers to see if there was a doctor on board, as the contractions were rapidly increasing.
Thanks to the joint action of a doctor among the passengers and the cabin crew, the passenger finally managed to give birth during the flight. After the happy birth, the flight crew took pictures with the mother and the newborn, a moment that put a touching end to the unexpected event.
The commander of the Turkish Airlines flight informed Manila air traffic control of what had happened on board and requested urgent medical assistance as soon as the aircraft touched down. The plane landed about 45 minutes after the birth of the baby, where a medical team was already waiting for the newborn and his mother to be taken by ambulance to a hospital. According to Turkish media reports, both are in good health.
