A massive blackout caused by a failure in the power generation and distribution network left Pakistan plunged for hours in complete darkness, including the country’s main cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Multan. The blackout began late on Saturday with a failure at the Guddu plant, in Sindh province, and within seconds caused the rest of the power plants across the country to shut down. Although power has begun to be restored in phases starting in the capital Islamabad, authorities warn that it will take time to fully restore power.
