Water reserves in Istanbul continue to decline at an alarming rate due to the drought that Turkey has been suffering from for more than a year, according to the latest data released by the Istanbul Water Management Office (İSKİ), which indicates that the average level of the dams supplying water to the city is at 20.36%, its lowest level in a decade.
Six of the water reservoirs supplying water to Istanbul are also below the 10% mark, and of these, four are currently below 6% of their capacity, which is prompting authorities to draw water from the bottom of the dams. Experts warn that water reserves are approaching critical levels, which has consequences not only for water availability, but also for the quality of the water that can be obtained.
