Turkey, schools closed due to snow

Heavy snowfall forces schools to close in many provinces of Turkey

Heavy snowfall in much of Turkey forced the authorities to decree the closure of schools on Monday in at least 15 provinces of the country, mainly in northern and eastern Anatolia, where hundreds of villages have been cut off by road. The affected provinces for now are Artvin, Rize, Bolu, Kastamonu, Samsun, Trabzon, Karabük, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Ordu and Tokat in the Black Sea region; Van and Ardahan in eastern Turkey; and Hakkari and Şırnak in Southeastern Anatolia. In Şırnak, one of the most affected provinces, up to two meters of snow have accumulated on roads.
