Zülfi Satar, the man desperate to find his deaf cat ‘Pars’ who has been missing since 22 June in Kocaeli, north-west Turkey, and who offered a reward of 10,000 liras (more than 200 euros, almost half the minimum wage in Turkey) to anyone who could find the animal, has finally been reunited with his beloved pet.
Satar, a 46-year-old married man with a son living in the Gölcük district, had lost his cat ‘Pars’ (Leopard) on 22 June in front of his house; devastated by the loss, he had since started a relentless search to try to locate the feline, a 3-year-old Angora cat suffering from deafness, and had been tirelessly scouring the streets every day in search of the pet, putting posters with its picture on poles and trees, asking people in parks and squares or even spreading pictures of Pars through social media and asking for help to find him. Many people contacted Satar to show their support, even showing him pictures of cats that could be Pars, but no luck.
“I live in Gölcük but now I am in İzmit. I hang pictures of my cat on every building and street in Gölcük. I came to İzmit thinking that maybe he (Pars) might have come to İzmit or someone might have seen him. I am posting pictures of my lost cat everywhere, in parks, on streets and in trees. I ask those who see him and have feelings, please help me,” said Satar in tears, also announcing that he would give a reward of 10,000 liras for anyone who finds the animal.
‘Don’t look for him anymore, I have your cat’
Finally, as local media reported, Satar was reunited with Pars on Monday – the day after the news broke in the press and on television – in the Kavaklı neighbourhood of the same Gölcük district, not far from Satar’s home, who could not contain his emotion at being reunited with his beloved pet. “I don’t know what to say. I couldn’t sleep after I got the news, I was up until the morning looking for him, I called everyone… But I can’t explain how happy I feel now. There are no words to describe this feeling. I miss him so much, I’m so happy,” said the man.
It was a resident of Gölcük named Adem Güven who, upon seeing the news of the cat’s disappearance on July 13, called Satar and told him “Don’t look for him anymore, I have your cat“. After going to the address the next day, Satar found that he was indeed his pet, and was overcome with emotion: “I don’t remember what happened, the last thing I remember is fainting. He put the cat on my lap… I’m still shaking. My hands and feet are still shaking. But I am very happy,” said Satar, who also informed that Güven refused to accept the reward for finding the animal.
“I have taken him to the vet and he is fine. Once the stress is over, he will have to be groomed. Once he is clean and his fur and body have been cleaned, and he has been wormed, we will take him home. One of his teeth is broken. It can’t have been easy, he’s been on the street for days. When you see his body, you realise that he has probably been living on the streets, nobody has taken him home,” explained Satar to the local press.
